Primary professional experience
·Formerly served as Director of the Central Asia Geoscience Research Center at the Xi’an Geological Survey Center of the China Geological Survey
·Previously acted as the first Secretary-General of the China-SCO Geosciences Cooperation Research Center under the former Ministry of Land and Resources, playing a pivotal role in establishing and organizing the international cooperation platform
Professional field and core expertise
LI Baoqiang stands as a seasoned geology and mineral resources expert with both extensive professional expertise and an exceptional track record with international collaboration projects. Starting his career grounded in domestic basic geological exploration and scientific research, Li later focused on advancing geoscience cooperation among countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt. Notably, Li enjoys a distinguished reputation in the international geoscience community, particularly in Central and South Asia
Major specialized technical achievements
(1)Extensive domestic project experience: Li has established a solid practical foundation by leading and implementing more than 10 production and scientific research projects, including 1:200,000 regional geochemical surveys, comprehensive geophysical prospecting (remote sensing) surveys, gold deposit prospecting and evaluation, gold mining and metallurgy, and the National 305 Project
(2)Pioneering and leading international geoscience collaboration: Since 2006, Li has dedicated himself to advancing international cooperation in geology and mineral resources between China and countries in Central Asia, South Asia, and beyond.
· Promoted the establishment of geoscience cooperation relationships with multiple countries in Central and South Asia.
· Organized and implemented multiple influential inter-country geoscience cooperation projects.
(3)Outstanding contributions to geological work in Tajikistan: Since Li initiating cooperation with the Tajikistan Geological Survey in 2008, their mutual achievements have been particularly remarkable:
·Collaborative research: Li invited Tajikistan experts to jointly compile the “Geological and Mineral Resources Map of Xinjiang and Its Surrounding Areas”, and to conduct research on the mineralization patterns of the Hindu Kush-Western Kunlun region.”
·Large-scale geochemical surveys: Li led the implementation of an array of projects including the “Geochemical Survey of the China-Tajikistan Border Region”, the “1:500,000 Geochemical Survey of the Tajik Pamir Region”, and the “1:1,000,000 Geochemical Survey of Tajikistan”.
·Achievements and applications: Li compiled a series of geochemical maps while establishing corresponding geochemical databases. These achievements provided critical data for evaluating the resource potential of the Tajik Pamir region and also offered reliable geochemical basis for reassessing existing mines within the Tianshan metallogenic belt.
(4)Significant academic works:
·Li authored important monographs including “Geological and Mineral Map of China’s Xinjiang and Adjacent Areas in Central Asia (1:1,500,000)”, “Overview of Geological and Mineral Resources in the Tianshan Region Between China and Kyrgyzstan”, and “Overview of Geological and Mineral Resources in the Hindu Kush-Western Kunlun Metallogenic Belt”.
·Li participated in the compilation of the monograph titled “Comparative Study on the Mineralization Patterns of Important Metallogenic Belts in China and Its Adjacent Regions”.
Major honors and awards
·“Outstanding Contribution Award for Geological Work in Tajikistan” by the Tajik government” (This international award stands as a testament to Li’s profound influence in Central Asia)
·“First Prize for Geological Survey Achievements in China” “by the China Geological Survey”
·Second Prize in Science and Technology by the former Ministry of Land and Resources
International cooperation and talent cultivation
While advancing project cooperation, LI Baoqiang attached great importance to cultivating geological talent, promoting the rapid growth of young geologists from both China and Tajikistan.
·Cultivated over 50 geochemical survey talents for Tajikistan.
·Recommended and assisted 10 outstanding scholars from Tajikistan in obtaining Chinese government scholarships and pursuing master’s degrees at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan),laying a talent foundation for the sustainable development of Tajikistan’s geological industry.
As a strategic geologist, LI Baoqiang has successfully applied China’s geological exploration technologies and expertise to international cooperation, achieving groundbreaking results particularly in Central Asia. In addition, Li has made significant contributions to regional mineralization pattern research, large-scale international geochemical mapping, and the promotion of cross-border geoscience cooperation and talent cultivation. Consequently, LI Baoqiang has become a prominent representative of China’s international collaboration in the field of geology and mineral resources.
